On the Second voyage of Christopher Columbus, several priests and lay people came (among them Young Ramón Pané, approximately 25 years old) with the instructions of the Queen Isabel «The Catholic» to transmit the Christian Faith, after celebrating the First Eucharist. o First Mass o Proclamation of the Gospel o Proclamation of the Holy Scriptures, in the area known as «La Isabela», in the North of the Dominican Republic, the lay people went out to the fraternal encounter of the natives, among them, Ramón Pané stood out thanks to the Gift that God gave to him, he learned their language; Christopher Columbus realized this and asked him to write everything about them and thus the first book known as: Relation About the Antiquities of the Indians was written, so for two years he was preparing this work and at the same time he created a friendship with the indigenous people, but much more with Guaticaba and his Family, who helped him carry out the mission of evangelizing the other indigenous people. On September 21, 1494, Guaticaba and the 16 members of his family were baptized, but unfortunately a few months later, they were martyred by other indigenous people.
In the year 1994, Holy Pope John Paul II recalled this fact and also mentioned that they are the FIRST MARTYRS FOR THE CHRISTIAN FAITH IN THE AMERICAN CONTINENT

Para darles honor y recordar la actitud, esfuerzo y su amor a Cristo, para que fuera conocido en el Continente Americano, hemos iniciado los trámites ante el Vaticano (Dicasterio para las Causas de los Santos) para que se conozca que Ramón Pané, es el Primer Evangelizador del Continente Americano y Guaticaba con 16 miembros de su familia, son los Primeros Martires y/o La Primera Familia Indígena Mártir en el Continente Americano.
